# The avatar participant never appears in my LiveKit room. What should I check?

First, confirm `avatar.start(...)` completed without raising an exception. Check that the avatar is starting in the same LiveKit room as your agent, and that `LIVEKIT_URL`, LiveKit credentials, and your Protoface API key are valid.

Also confirm the avatar is ready, note the `avatar.session_id`, and check the session status for failures. If it works in the dashboard or playground, the issue is likely in your LiveKit or agent setup.
